Hi, I’m Nate — and this is Zeus
I’m Nate, and the big, greying German Shepherd you’ll see all over this site is Zeus. I’ve had him since he was a fuzzy, oversized puppy tripping over his own paws — and today he’s a ten-year-old senior with a frosted muzzle, a slower trot, and the same soul he’s always had. Everything here comes from the life we’ve shared: the chaos, the training, the long walks, and now the tender, watchful years of caring for an aging dog I love completely.
Senior German Shepherd is my way of passing along what the two of us have learned together — honestly, from one owner to another.
Ten years with one very good dog
Zeus and I have been through the whole arc together. The tornado puppy months where I wondered if he’d ever have an off switch. The working-dog prime, when he could run all day and still supervise my every move. And now the part nobody quite prepares you for — the grey coming in, the little hitch before he stands, the way he sleeps deeper and leans on me a bit more.
I’ll be honest: the senior years have been my favorite. He’s softer now, more grateful, more himself. But they’ve also raised a hundred questions — about food, joints, mobility, what’s normal aging and what’s worth a vet visit. When I went looking for answers, I mostly found clinical, faceless articles or marketing dressed up as advice. What I wanted was someone who’d actually lived it.
So I decided to become that person for the next owner.
Why this site exists
I built Senior German Shepherd to share real, first-hand experience — not to pretend I’m an expert I’m not. My goal is simple: to help other people love this remarkable breed well, and to make the senior chapter feel less lonely and less scary.
Here’s what you’ll find:
- Honest guides on the things that actually matter — food and nutrition, toys and enrichment, exercise and mobility, health and aging, and the quirks and joys of German Shepherd life.
- Real experience, backed by research. When I write about something health-related, I lean on reputable sources like the AKC, veterinary references, and published studies — and I always point you back to your own vet for the decisions that matter.
- A first-person voice. This is me and Zeus, not an anonymous “we.” If something worked for us, I’ll tell you. If it didn’t, I’ll tell you that too.
German Shepherds are loyal, brilliant, hilarious, and endlessly devoted — and they give us their whole lives. This site is a small way of giving something back.
